René Volwerk

René is a Senior Consultant in Digital Law & Ethics and CISO with over 25 years of experience. He focuses on ensuring that privacy and security receive the right priority within an organization. René's work involves guiding organizations to handle (personal) data more consciously and securely. He achieves this by aligning people, processes, and systems with the requirements of privacy and security, thereby enhancing organizational safety. Curiosity drives René. He wants to understand how complex systems work. The interplay between people, ICT, and security is a complex puzzle he enjoys solving. Technology and organizations are fascinating and rewarding subjects for him. René is consistently intrigued by the fact that attention and understanding are necessary, despite all the high-tech solutions, to realize meaningful change. René has worked on assignments as an interim CISO for municipalities, tax advisors, and insurance companies. He has also undertaken advisory projects in healthcare for organizations such as Reinier van Arkel, Welzorg, and the HSK group. At Welzorg, René conducted an analysis of the status of NEN7510 implementation. He also evaluated the information security function setup at GGZ Oost-Brabant. In leadership, René focuses on organizing collaboration between Business and IT to support strategy. He also aims to design Security & Privacy frameworks that enable agile, secure, and GDPR-compliant innovation. Additionally, he focuses on leveraging Security as an enabler in the transition to the Cloud. René’s value lies in his ability to integrate these three areas effectively.
