With a background as an Electrical Engineer, Mark has worked on various ICT challenges over the years, ranging from data and identity management to data science, and from online services to business intelligence and marketing. Since 2012, Mark has fully and passionately focused on privacy management and the application of the GDPR. In recent years, he has concentrated on the privacy issues arising from (chain) collaboration in the social domain, public order and security domain, and the interfaces between them.
Mark is fascinated by issues and innovations with societal relevance, where it is important to apply privacy-by-design, but also to seek consensus on the ‘correct’ interpretation and application of the GDPR. A central question here is, "How can chain and organizational goals be achieved within legal frameworks and with respect for privacy?"
Mark is capable of pragmatically bridging the gap between policymakers and operational professionals, translating legal aspects into practical applications. With his expertise, Mark oversees the bigger picture without losing sight of the details and is able to create support from management, operational departments, and IT. Mark can quickly familiarize himself with the processes and context of an organization and knows how to connect stakeholders from a content perspective.
Since privacy is almost never standalone, Mark believes it is always essential to collaborate across different disciplines and roles, and together explore what the shared interests are and how they can be realized. Mark is happy to advise organizations on this.
